Jul 5, 2012. #2. if you turn the gear by hand, the bendix should come out fairly easily. the inertia of the gear staying still and the motor kicking on is what pushes the bendix out to engage the flywheel, rather than it being pushed out by a solenoid like on a car. if the shaft is bent for some reason it will keep the gear from being able to.

Basically, I will go to start it and all I get is the spinning, eventually it engages and starts almost immediately, The longer the truck sits for, the longer it takes before the starter actually engages.
